Taquerias La Hacienda was founded in 1999 by Maria and Miguel Zagal, who were among the five original food court operators at the grand opening of the iconic Mercado Central in South Minneapolis. Their vision was to create an authentic Mexican dining experience that would immerse customers in rich, traditional flavors. Taquerias La Hacienda made history as the first restaurant to introduce tacos al pastor to Minnesota. Following their initial success at Mercado Central, the restaurant expanded, opening two additional locations in Minneapolis and Burnsville.

Their goal was to create an authentic Mexican restaurant that offered a true taste of Mexico while introducing Minnesota to tacos al pastor. The house specialty showcases tender, flavorful Mexican-style barbecue pork, served with warm corn tortillas, fresh cilantro, onion, and salsa—combining simplicity with rich, complex flavors. Other favorites include generously stuffed burritos, packed with savory charbroiled steak, roast pork, or chicken, wrapped in a soft flour tortilla with rice, beans, onions, cilantro, and salsa. Taquería La Hacienda also offers quesadillas, tortas, traditional Mexican sodas, and more, bringing the vibrant flavors of Mexico to every dish.
